As 2020 comes to a close, we’re not so much wistfully bidding the year adieu as we are slamming the door in its face. And it seems Beyoncé is on the same page. For the holidays, the singer gave her loved ones the perfect gift to mark the end of a rough year: a necklace that appears to give the middle finger to 2020.
Bey’s cousin, Angie Beyince, shared a photo of the jewelry on Instagram, writing, “@beyonce gifted all of her girls with this amazing custom 2020 necklace.” The necklace features a gold and diamond “2020” pendant, but the individual numbers are different lengths, creating the overall shape of a hand giving the middle finger.
“When I opened it my eyes teared up because it is both Hilarious & Deeply Sentimental,” Angie wrote on Instagram. “2020 has had ups and downs but over all its [sic] been a really weird and tuff [sic] year. Hopefully 2021 is good to the world.”
Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, also received the thoughtful gift and posted a selfie of her wearing the new bauble on Instagram. “f_ck 2020 two [sic] many losses !!!” she wrote in the caption. “But it is almost over and we are still here !!!”
While this particular gift seems to be exclusively for Beyoncé’s family members, the singer has stepped up to help those most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Her charity, BeyGOOD, has given more than $ 2.5 million to Black-owned small businesses through its BeyGOOD Small Business Impact fund; and last week, the organization announced a new fund that will distribute $ 5,000 grants to 100 individuals or families facing foreclosures or evictions due to the pandemic.
