Tom Jones has been taken to hospital with a bacterial infection and advised not to perform.
The 78-year-old was forced to cancel a performance in Chichester last night and confirmed tonight’s show in Chester won’t go ahead either.
In a statement on his official Twitter, he said: “I am so sorry for cancelling last night’s show in Chichester, it’s the worst feeling having to let down everyone who was coming as well as everyone who is involved with the event.
“I know many of you travel considerable distances and make plans with friends and family that take a lot of effort, and it is so disappointing when things don’t go right.
“Although I can’t perform again tonight at Chester Racecourse, the good news is that we can get another date in Chester on August 12, so hopefully I will see you there.
“Until then, a sincere thank you for your support and understanding.”
“Sir Tom Jones has a bacterial infection for which he is being treated in hospital”
An earlier statement confirmed the Voice coach was in hospital.
It read: “Sir Tom Jones has a bacterial infection for which he is being treated in hospital.
“The condition is being well managed and we are hoping for a speedy recovery.
“He is extremely sorry and disappointed not to be able to perform tonight, and sincerely apologises for inconveniences caused to the audience and all those who are involved in the event.”
Tom’s next scheduled performance is in Germany at the Emsland Arena on Saturday.
He’s set to be hopping back and forth between the UK and Europe over the next week.
Following his Germany date, Tom is scheduled to perform in Peterborough, then Finland, then York within one week.
His tour then heads to Monte Carlo, Turkey and Germany again, Edinburgh, Jordan, Italy and Denmark.
When he’s not busy touring, Tom is a coach on the UK version of The Voice.
He joined the show in its first series back in 2012 and was the winning coach with singer Leanne Mitchell.
Tom continued until the third series, not coming back for the fourth and final on the BBC.
When the show moved over to ITV in 2017, and with Emma Willis at the helm, he returned.
Earlier this year, Tom won for the second time with his act Ruti Olajugbagbe, beating other coaches will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson and Olly Murs.
