Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon made a shocking confession on Twitter that left her fans feeling confused, upset and disappointed.
But rather than admitting something sordid or scandalous, it was actually quite innocent.
She told her 117,000 followers: “Never had a cup of tea in my life and I intend to keep it that way.”
People quickly jumped on her tweet expressing their own opinion about Britain’s favourite pastime.
“Never had a cup of tea in my life and I intend to keep it that way”
Co-star Georgia Taylor told her: “Not going to lie, I feel a bit sad.”
Another follower said: “I’m not sure I can remain a fan.”
A third wrote: “May God forgive you. You are in a show that is as British as seaside rock, fish and chips and the proper English cuppa.
“Come on Miss Fallon, get the kettle on, find a box of Yorkshire Tea and you will never look back!”
And someone else joked: “I’ve seen people on Jeremy Kyle for less than this. I think you should be invited to tea tasting by someone.”
But there were plenty of people that sympathised, admitting they had never had a cup of tea either.
Lucy tried to explain that the smell of it put her off, but added: “I feel like I’ve let everyone down.”
Lucy’s Corrie character Bethany Platt is having a quieter time at the moment, after a few difficult months.
Elsewhere on the Cobbles, the drama is at fever pitch with last night’s episodes including a number of bombshells.
Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) punched Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) after she found out he’d cheated on her – despite it being their wedding.
Coronation Street continues Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
