Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans are in talks to star in Celine Song’s new A24 movie.

Per Variety, Past Lives’ Song is working with A24 on a new romantic comedy, Materialists. Johnson, Pascal, and Evans are all currently in negotiations to star in the film, though it’s unclear what roles they could be playing.

Not much is known about the plot of Materialists, though Variety says the film is a “New York-set rom-com following a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man.”

Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler for Killer Films and David Hinojosa of 2AM are producing the film, which may begin filming as soon as May 2024.

Celine Song’s first A24 film is nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards

Song made her feature film directorial debut with Past Lives, which stars Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro. The film was released in United States theaters in June 2023 after premiering at Sundance earlier that year.

Past Lives received two Academy Award nominations, Best Picture (David Hinojosa, Christine Vachon, and Pamela Koffler) and Best Original Screenplay (Song), with the ceremony being held on March 10, 2024.

“Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Nora’s family emigrates from South Korea. 20 years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny,” the synopsis for Past Lives reads.

Fifty Shades of Grey’s Johnson will soon be seen in Sony’s Madame Web, which releases in United States theaters on February 14, 2024. The Last of Us’ Pascal is starring in Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 in 2024, while Captain America’s Evans will appear alongside Dwayne Johnson in November 2024’s Red One.

Materialists does not yet have a release date from A24. Past Lives, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Showtime.
