Emma Thompson Cast in Good Luck to You Leo Grande

Emma Thompson will be starring in director Sophie Hyde‘s sex comedy Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.

The movie, which is set to start production in London early next year, will be the second collaboration between Hyde and Cornerstone Films after Animals, Hyde’s 2019 hit drama that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Cornerstone will be handling international sales and distribution and will commence sales at the American Film Market. The production firm will co-represent the rights to U.S sales with CAA Media Finance.

“I’m thrilled to be working with the tremendously funny and heartbreakingly honest Emma Thompson to explore intimacy and desire, and to put on screen a relationship that feels unexpected and delightful,” said Hyde, whose movie 52 Tuesdays was honored with the directing award for World Cinema at Sundance in 2014 and a Crystal Bear prize at the Berlin Film Festival. “At a time when our need for each other is so vividly present, it will be a delight to create and show this connection between two people, which is funny, sexy and moving.”

The film will be the first cooperative project between Cornerstone and producer Debbie Gray‘s firm, Genesius Pictures, which are partners in The Reset Collective, which is a fairly new distribution company out of Australia. Gray has production credits for Mrs Lowry & Son and Northern Soul. She commented that “I loved the script from the first read, funny, relatable, relevant. It’s great to have a female-strong team with such a passion for the project.”

The film, which is based on the original screenplay by award-winning comedy writer Katy Brand — known for Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show and the Rose D’Or winner Psychobitches — is about the middle aged widow Nancy Stokes (Thompson), who years for adventure, human connection, and some good sex for the first time in her life.

Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder of Cornerstone Films’ added that “We loved the bold, fresh and surprising take on female sexuality in Katy’s script and to have an actress of Emma’s caliber in the role of Nancy is a real gift.”

Thompson is repped by Hamilton Hodell and CAA; and Hyde is repped by UTA and Anonymous Content.
