Guardians of the Galaxy fans are sharing their heartbreak after the shocking loss of Oreo the Raccoon, who played Rocket.
Oreo the Raccoon served as a model for the character Rocket, and has now passed away following a short illness.
The news was announced on Thursday by a Facebook fan page group, after Oreo’s family took to the social site to confirm his death.
Alongside the post, Oreo’s family shared a number of heartwarming photos of him.
As family member Quinta Layla announced the death, she wrote: “Our hearts are broken as we have lost our best friend, our Guardian of our Galaxy Mr Oreo Raccoon.
“Oreo passed away in the early hours of this morning after a very short illness.
“Many thanks to our wonderful vets for their compassion and care.”
The fan account soon shared the original post, adding their thoughts and love about the performer.
They wrote: “Rest in Peace to Oreo the Raccoon, the real-life model for Rocket Raccoon.
“Oreo was also the Raccoon that went to the red carpet with GotG director James Gunn when the movie dubted in Hollywood.”
Rocket appeared in the 2008 relaunch of Guardians of the Galaxy, following later in 2014 and once more in 2017.
His final appearance will be in Avengers: Endgame, but Oreo will no longer model his on-screen persona.
The official Twitter account of Guardians of the Galaxy is yet to comment on the loss of the major character.
Fans have already been sharing their love for Oreo, after watching Guardians of the Galaxy for a number of years.
His most recent role was voiced by Bradley Cooper, who hasn’t commented on the death of his character’s model just yet.
Oreo’s death has come as a shock to fans, with a Raccoon’s life span being around twenty years when kept at home, in a safe environment.
His family has started to mourn his death, and fans are reminiscing over Rocket’s best bits throughout the movie.
