And as the nation prepares for tonight’s big finale on ITV, your Daily Star was invited along yesterday to tackle the challenge.
I stood at the starting line faced with floating steps, cliff grabbers, sonic curves, hanging bars, bridge runs, hill climbs, balance bridges and waist-deep water.
An unforgiving crowd of 12-year-old boys gathered on shore to watch, adding to the already intense pressure.
Things didn’t start well with my 6ft 5ins frame making an almighty splash into the chilly water at only the second obstacle.
“Every year the competitors get better, fitter, stronger”
It wasn’t my last slip-up. But I eventually managed to make it round and stay relatively dry – the impossibly hard lily pads don’t count!
I crawled to the beach having thoroughly enjoyed the day and feeling I’d gone from Ninja Worrier to, nearly, a Ninja Warrior.
Sky Sports presenter Chris Kamara, 60, who was chuckling from the sidelines, will be hosting the final tonight at 6.30pm.
“Every year the competitors get better, fitter, stronger,” he said.
“I can’t give too much away but I will say tonight’s show couldn’t have turned out any better – it is a cracker.”
You too can tackle the beastly Ninja Warrior UK Aqua Park at Liquid Leisure, the world’s leading water sports complex in Datchet, Berks.
