Jeremy Vine was forced to apologise to viewers of his Channel 5 show today after a guest dropped a C-bomb.
The 54-year-old presenter was hosting a Valentine’s Day phone-in, when he spoke to first time caller Tim, from Lancashire.
Tim called up to talk about how he hasn’t bought his wife a Valentine’s Day card for 28 years when he took aim at Jeremy in a random outburst.
Jeremy asked if Tim had ever bought his wife anything else, such as a big present, and it seems he didn’t like the question all that much judging by his rude response.
Tim responded: “We’ve been married 28 years and never bought into Valentine’s Day cards and you’re a c***.”
Jeremy was naturally stunned to silence by the caller, especially as the vile comment seemed to come out of nowhere.
The gobsmacked host, who took over from Matthew Wright in 2018, then apologised as the other guests shook their heads in disgust.
Jeremy said: “I must apologise for the language. By the way, as he started talking, I thought, ‘This guy’s not for real.’
“Really sorry for that. We do everything we possibly can to avoid any bad language on the programme.
“We know it offends some viewers. It’s darn right rude to everyone when a caller can’t control their language.”
Viewers at home tweeted their support for Jeremy.
One said: “Disagree all you want, but to use this language makes you look stupid.”
Another wrote: “Jeremy recovered well there. Tim’s a plonker.”
And a third added: “So amateur. How are they getting through almost every day? Seriously sort it out!”
Sounds like someone’s not having a great Valentine’s Day.
Jeremy Vine airs weekdays at 9.15am on Channel 5
