At the start of tonight’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Declan Donnelly and Holly Willoughby announced John Barrowman would be exempt from the latest trial.
The presenters reassured viewers John was “fine”, but until he returned to camp, they would be keeping him out of the challenges.
They also advised viewers could be refunded if they had voted for John, 51.
Holly then revealed that they would explain more about what happened to John later in the show.
In the meantime, viewers would be given five extra votes on the I’m A Celeb app, following John’s “accident”.
The West End Star seemed to be having a whale of the time on tonight’s show as he taught best pal Emily Atack, 28, how to “sl*t drop” – they later came up with their own secret handshake.
But tragedy struck towards the end of the programme.
As the hungry campmates were tucking into a dinner of wallaby, following Fleur East, 31, bagging 10 stars in her trial, John suffered a fall.
Heading out of camp with Harry Redknapp, 71, John was heard crying out in pain, as he tripped down the bank/
Harry asked: “You alright John?,” before he frantically shouted for Nick Knowles and the rest of the camp.
John was then seen being carried to the Bush Telegraph by fellow campmates Nick, 56, and Malique Thompson-Dwyer, 20.
An upset Emily said to the camera: “We don’t know what’s happened – I’m gutted.”
But Dec, 43, and Holly, 37, later reassured campmates that John was “fine”, but he had sprained his ankle.
They explained: “So the good news is John is fine, he’s hoping to rejoin the camp, we’ll have more news for you tomorrow.”
The presenting duo also announced Malique was the second celebrity to be booted off I’m A Celeb, following TV legend Noel Edmonds, 69, being voted off last week.
