It has become quite the trend for a whole host of celebs to promote the likes of detox teas and meal replacement shakes on Instagram.
As influencers for their young fans, many have been slammed by social media users for bigging them up.
However, former TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh isn’t so keen on the detox products herself – warning her fans about the side effects.
Opening up during an interview with The Metro, the 27-year-old shared: “Honestly most of them will just make you go to the toilet… a lot.
“I love, love herbal teas and drink them all day but I think ultimately it’s about reading the ingredients and understanding what we are putting into our bodies.”
Sharing her concerns, the brunette revealed all: “Some of these products could become very harmful to your health and mental health.
“What I always say is there is no miracle tea, tablet or powder.”
Taking about the more natural way to feel good and keep healthy, Lucy told the reporter: “We need to be more active and be more aware what we are putting in our bodies. Move more and eat better, not necessarily less.”
Proving her fitness success, Miss Mecklenburgh regularly flaunts her sizzling toned body on Instagram to her 1.4 million followers.
Inspiring her devotees, Lucy launched a fitness and nutritional programme, Results With Lucy, back in 2013 after she met personal trainer Cecila Harris.
Accessible wherever you are, the programme helps many subscribers to fit a quick workout into their ever-growing schedules, balancing a mix of exercise routines with a set of healthy recipes.
Sharing her tips on a better way to get healthy rather than using shakes and detox teas, Lucy suggested: “I love HIIT. It works with my lifestyle or anyone with a busy lifestyle as you only need to do 15 minutes.
“If you put in enough effort into it… I do like variety though, so I don’t get bored, which is one of the reasons I set up Results With Lucy.”
HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training, a short burst of a high-intensity workout out with a mix of short breaks in between.
To get the full benefits you have to push hard for arounds 40 seconds and then rest for 20 seconds to help improve endurance.
