Toni Collette Gets New Action Comedy Role
Academy Award nominated actress Toni Collette has been cast in a funny new role in the upcoming film, Mafia Mamma.
Toni Collette is a horror movie fan’s dream actress having starred in smash hit scare fests such as The Sixth Sense and Hereditary. Now, however, she’s obtained a new role that’s closer to her work in lighter fare such as Muriel’s Wedding or Little Miss Sunshine. Collette will be starring in the new Catherine Hardwicke (the director of Twilight) picture titled Mafia Mamma about a mom in the suburbs who inherits her grandfather’s Mafia legacy. Monica Bellucci will also star in the picture.
Toni Collette will be portraying a woman named Kristin in the new picture. She comes to be in charge of one of the most intense Mafia families in Italy just as her son is off to college and her husband has been caught cheating on her. Bellucci of The Matrix Revolutions fame serves as Bianca who gives Kristin the news of her grandfather’s death which propels Kristin to her new position as a crime lord. When Collette’s character goes to Italy thinking she will get to see Europe and experience the finer things in life, violence erupts at the funeral setting off a series of events which Kristin must coordinate somehow. It’s a great premise for a very funny comedy!
Collette is very happy to be working on this new film, according to sources. Director Hardwicke and Collette previously collaborated several years ago on the little seen 2015 Drew Barrymore gem which was called Miss You Already. Hardwicke is excited to be reuniting with the talented Collette. This new film is a perfect women’s comedy that will also appeal to men with its action sequences.
Toni Collette came on the scene with 1995’s smash comedy hit Muriel’s Wedding and has made so many terrific movies over the years. If she’s in a movie, you’re almost guaranteed to see Collette at the top of her game. This includes her recent work in films such as Knives Out and I’m Thinking of Ending Things.
Mafia Mamma will be a role that will launch Toni Collette back into the spotlight. She was recently in the limelight for her turn in the critically acclaimed Hereditary back in 2018 and all eyes are on her work in this upcoming picture. Collette’s name on a project is a constant stamp of quality and this will be one of the most eagerly anticipated forthcoming comedies in recent years.
