Stripping off on holiday can be daunting – especially if you’re self-conscious about your body.
Even though the body positivity movement has encouraged thousands to feel more confident in their own skins, there’s still work to be done.
So in order to encourage more ladies to embrace themselves, Yours Clothing has launched a Poolside Confidence campaign.
A team of plus size models have backed the campaign, including blogger What Laura Loves.
Here, Daily Star Online speaks to the Instagram star about why body positivity is so important.
Laura Ferry believes that the fashion industry should be more inclusive.
She regularly shares un-retouched pictures of herself on Instagram, where she’s attracted more than 25,000 followers.
In some images, the beauty stripped down to her undies to show others that it’s OK to feel confident if you are plus size.
Over the years, she has also spoken out against body shaming and online bullying.
Laura revealed why the body positivity campaign is so important to her.
She said: “While fashion has come on leaps and bounds in recent years, it has a long way to go before it is inclusive and accepting of all.
“With body shaming of women of all sizes in the media, I think its important that such a powerful industry show that beauty is not limited to one restricted size range.
“Specifically for the plus size spectrum, we need a greater representation of body shapes and sizes of women beyond a size 20 in campaigns, catalogues and online as well as across the media.
“There are many women out there who are wearing these sizes and they deserve to be as equally represented as women who are smaller.”
While the fashion world still has a way to go before it’s fully representative, there are some simple ways to increase your body confidence.
Laura recommends taking small clothing risks at first, before gradually getting braver.
Switching up your regular outfits and taking time to appreciate yourself in the mirror are ways to celebrate yourself.
The model believes that making these simple steps can make the world of difference if you’re jetting off on holiday.
She explained: “Building your body confidence takes time. Start with a small achievable goal and smash it.
“Let yourself acknowledge how awesome that achievement is and build on it from there.
“If you’ve never worn swimwear around a pool before, start with a great swimsuit.
“Order loads online in different styles and sizes and try them on in the comfort of your home.
“Choose the one that makes you feel your best; remember its your opinion that matters.
She added: “Once you’ve got your swimming costume, buy accessories that coordinate with the colour or style of it, such as a kimono, beach bag and flip flops.”
“You’ll feel so stylish in your beach outfit and can pop the kimono on when going to the bar if it makes you feel more comfortable and slip it off when you’re back at your lounger or going into the pool.
“Once you see how incredible you look in the mirror, feel the sun as you relax and realise that everyone else is far too busy enjoying their holiday to care what you look like, you’ll start to gain more confidence.
“Try different styles, switch to a tankini or bikini; let the sand be your catwalk!”
