RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Willam says getting kicked off show was biggest achievement

Back in 2011, the world came to know and love drag queen Willam when she was disqualified from the fourth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Since then, she’s gone on to launch a YouTube channel – which is almost at 1million subscribers – a book, called Suck Less, music career, podcast, and now a makeup line.

Willam, 37, already had a number of acting credits under her belt, but her screen career has flourished, with a role alongside Lady Gaga in 2018 blockbuster A Star Is Born.

And while the Bradley Cooper-directed movie is among Willam’s biggest achievements, she has another less obvious career moment up there.

Willam told us getting kicked off Drag Race was among her biggest achievements

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Willam said: “I’d probably say A Star Is Born and getting kicked off Drag Race are my biggest things to date – but those are just the things that people see, kind of.”

The social media superstar continued: “I know my numbers on how many books I’ve sold, almost 50,000 copies. That’s a pretty big achievement for a first time author.

“Boy Is A Bottom is the most-viewed drag queen music video out of Drag Race, including RuPaul, out of everyone. It’s been viewed 24million times. It was huge, it was worldwide. I sing it in Spanish too.

“So I’d say Boy Is A Bottom, A Star Is Born and Drag Race were my biggest things so far.

“Also, I don’t want to discredit my book or my YouTube channel, which is pumping along.”

Now, Willam is hoping to achieve the same sort of success in the beauty industry after launching Coverboy.

So far, the makeup line contains false lashes, glitter and lip products in a range of colours.

Willam told us: “I wanted stuff that I could use when I got in drag that would stay in place where I put it, wouldn’t smear and stayed shiny without having to worry about your hair getting in gloss.

“And glitter that I could smear on and didn’t have to worry about blending and some good lashes, which every drag queen needs – and every girl needs at this point, too.”
