A video has gone viral this week that showcases blogger Sukhi Mann removing her blackheads – with dental floss.
The video, posted on April 26, has garnered over a million views and shows Sukhi demonstrating her go-to trick to remove the pesky blackheads in split seconds.
Sukhi uses two flosser picks in her step-by-step video posted on Instagram.
First, the 28-year-old soaks a towel in hot water and places it over her T-zone for five minutes to extract the clogged pores.
The, she takes her flosser picks and scrapes them down and around her nose and reveals the blackheads and dirt they’ve collected.
Finally, the California-based beauty soaks a cotton ball in strong mouth wash and uses it as a makeshift toner to dab the area.
Sukhi accompanied the video with the caption, “DIY trick using disposable floss picks and mouthwash. This trick helps to extract whiteheads and blackheads.”
She added to make sure you don’t overdo the extraction as you don’t want to cause scarring.
She said to also rinse the area with a mild cleanser and that you can use a regular toner or rose water instead of the mouthwash “toner” – and warned not to use the mouthwash if you have sensitive skin.
Beverly Hills-based dermatologist and founder of SkinxFive, Ava Shamban, said the trick is safe to do at home.
“Since she’s using it to essentially scrape her skin, it looks like it would be okay [to replicate] as long as you’re not using the [flosser stick] in a sawing motion, cutting into the skin,” Ava told Glamour.
“The only drawback would be that the floss is clean, but not sterile.”
Ava also warned that if you have an inflamed pimple and it pops while using the floss, the bacteria from that area could spread across your face, leading to an infection.
