“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” ― Bob Marley

Sometimes when we’re stressed out, restless, sad or even happy, all we need is music. Music, provided the vibes match up with the emotions, can be incredibly healing. In a matter of minutes, you can feel happier and understood. Now more than ever is a time where we need to rid stress and cool down, so just pop on your headphones or connect to your speakers and let the rhythm of these calming and relaxing songs take over and drift you away.

Here are five Spotify playlist to help you get into a relaxed state of mind.

Lo-Fi Beats, spotify, chill

This amazing playlist from Spotify blesses your ears with discrete, low key beats that make you want to close your eyes and just sink into your pillow. With slow melodies and no lyrics, you’ll be slowly bopping and waving your head to the fluid rhythms of this playlist’s heartbeat. Perfect before sleep, during the day, on a run or while you’re working.

Chill af

Rhythmically very similar to Lo-Fi Beats, Chill af, and it’s in the name, is incredibly relaxing to listen to and gently vibe to. Incorporating the same type of beats and fluidity, Chill af also includes smooth vocals that don’t shock or remove any of the relaxing aspects, in fact, they compliment them.

Tory Archbold

Women Love Tech talks to Powerful Steps CEO and founder Tory Archbold about the pivotal moment that inspired her to transition from her life as a Sydney-based PR guru to an international business mentor.

Here, she talks about the epiphany that made her change her life and as she says discover ‘new beginnings and a happy heart.’

What was your inspiration for this approach to life and change?

For a long time, my life appeared perfect on the outside – successful female business owner attracting the world’s top performing retail brands, celebrities and influencers, travelling the world and making magic happen…for others.  I forgot about myself and my own needs. In 2013, I had a near death experience, and it was crunch time – the wake-up moment the universe sends you – live or die.  What was it I truly wanted from life and who did I want to share it with?  The evolution began and I haven’t looked back.  I stripped back what no longer aligned with my values, intent and purpose and aligned with what did.  This created space for new beginnings and a happy heart.

The best advice I received throughout the recovery period was from the surgeon after 12 rounds of antibiotics to fight a recurring scepticima infection and failing organs – he told me to focus on getting a happy heart as it was a magnet for miracles. He gave me a 6-month recovery, but the reality is it took 3 – 4 years as I then suffered from chronic and adrenal fatigue – a build-up of years of not leading a balanced life due to the circumstances I had created.  He was 100% right and this is what I now teach the Powerful Steps tribe.

A happy heart is a magnet for miracles. Surround yourself with the right tribe, align with your values, intent and purpose and you will translate your wildest dreams into reality.  I am living proof this can happen.

Where did you think you might be able to take this?

It’s clear that people are looking for a more balanced approach to life – they want to be at the top of their professional game and have the flexibility to live their best life.  They are not driven by money, they are driven by lifestyle. They know abundance will flow when they are in flow. This trend has been coming from the US and Europe for many years and I want to bring it to life in Australia then take my platform global.

Who is this approach aimed at and why?

Female entrepreneurs and corporate women who want to leverage my brand expertise – these are women who are looking to be the best version of themselves, they want to stand out and be known for making a difference.  They are willing to put themselves first to create a life of abundance – they understand that their health is their wealth and are likely to invest in ensuring they are in peak condition.  When they put themselves first, they are saying NO to what does not align with their value set and YES to what does because they know when they work with intent and purpose, they will attract what they truly deserve – career success and a life shared with the ones they love most.  These women are fierce; they don’t gossip, they smile. They are willing to step outside their comfort zone, they show gratitude, and they do things that challenge them. They are my type of women.

How successful have you been so far?

February 2020, I had said goodbye to my PR company TORSTAR and hello to Powerful Steps. I had a line-up of amazing corporate clients, and was flying around Australia empowering teams that challenges will always become possibilities when you have the ability to switch your thinking and take powerful steps forward in life. Then COVID hit – I had 48 hours to strategise how I could pivot a business based on corporate keynotes and workshops and transform it into a virtual offering. COVID did me a huge favour as my commitment to three coffee dates a week for over two decades of my professional career had built a powerful network of connections. Human connection was missing in the first few weeks of lockdown and people were feeling isolated. I started inviting people to join me for virtual coffee dates which grew into IGTV with people I knew who I felt would inspire others with their positivity and professional insights. Within a month I had a mentoring business set-up with clients in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the USA. In September, I launched the Business Attraction Program and the Powerful Stories podcast which was signed to Nova Entertainment and sponsored by Intuit Quickbooks. December came and I knew I had a profitable business model empowering others – exactly what delivers me a happy heart.

Why do you think people will benefit from this?

Renewed energy and focus for what matters in life. I empower others to understand the power of stepping outside their comfort zone, getting uncomfortable to up-level and raise their vibration so they can attract what they truly deserve. I use my expertise based on two decades of creating powerful brand campaigns and businesses for others (including my own) and translate it into powerful steps people can take to attract that same success.

What specifically is the objective and how do people know if they have achieved it?

People walk away with the most powerful tool of all – a nurtured brand and spirit – they become super attractors as they understand who they are, what has shaped them as women and how they can use the lessons learnt to propel themselves forward. They will know they have become a super attractor as opportunities will start flowing naturally into their life because they understand the possibilities of life flow in business and love. They live in alignment with their values, intent and purpose and this is where the magic of life unfolds for us all.

Trello is a program by the Australian tech firm Atlassian which allows teams to work more collaboratively on projects and get tasks done on time. The program uses boards, lists and cards as a way to organize workflows and prioritize what needs to be completed.

Trello is a great way of visually organizing your team’s workload. If you are currently using a whiteboard to document your project management, then Trello might be a good tool to consider.

After you have created an account, you might like to create a sprint board with lists like Product Backlog, Things To Do, Doing and Done. Then you’ll add some cards (tasks) to your lists. The aim is to move your boards from left to right, as the tasks are completed.

You can then add some team members to delegate the work. If you have a deadline then you can add a due date. You can add coloured labels, like the type of tasks, phase name or the levels of priority. Staff members can add comments and attach documents.

trello

Power-Ups are additional functionality like custom fields.

Some people like Trello so much that they use the program to organize their personal life, and create boards for organizing their wedding or grocery shopping. Other people use the boards as a way to store reference and training material for staff.

Trello is a great way to work collaboratively with your team online, to see tasks visually and gain an overview of how all of your projects are travelling.

About Trello

Trello is the easy, free, flexible, and visual way to manage your projects and organize anything, trusted by millions of people from all over the world. https://trello.com/

home office

Juniper Networks has released its 2021 Enterprise Predictions, highlighting the upcoming trends in the world of enterprise technology – pinpointing three areas of focus for the upcoming year:

  • The impact of COVID on networking
  • Networking
  • Artificial Intelligence

Here are the 2021 Enterprise Predictions: The Impact of COVID On Networking and predictions about the future of AI from Bruce Bennie, JuniperNetwork’s Regional Vice President for the ANZ region.

COVID impact on networking

  • Contact tracing will be top of mind for enterprises: With return to work timelines getting pushed out to 2021, enterprises will need to dedicate time and resources to safely return employees to the office, with contact tracing playing a significant role.
  • There will be a shift to more distributed micro-offices: SD-WAN will become increasingly important for IT departments, corporate strategy and real estate planning as businesses will prioritise setting up small micro-offices as opposed to one large campus. For IT teams, this means an increased emphasis on employees and the end-user experience from client to cloud.
  • There will be an increase in network equipment spend: COVID has created an environment of increasing network demand for high-speed connectivity and bandwidth to deliver internet solutions for employees at home. This presents an opportunity for telcos to bundle services and cohesively manage SD-WAN and value-added services, such as location-based geo-mapping, for enterprises struggling with the paradigm shift.
  • Networking and location technology convergence will play a major role in healthcare and retail: Deploying Wi-Fi for drive-through COVID testing was critical, and with today’s urgent and ever-evolving pandemic, healthcare and retail customers expect to get products quicker. Location technology will be important in helping speed up processes such as curbside pickup.

Networking

  • Network visibility and analytics will be critical to optimise user experiences: Visibility and analytics give IT teams the data to automate and optimise the enterprise network. This visibility allows IT teams to proactively identify and rapidly fix network performance issues, ensuring the best end-user experience.
  • The network of the next decade will rely on modern cloud architectures: Network agility will be more important to the customer experience than ever before, and the only way to achieve it is to build your network in a modern cloud environment that can match the innovation speed of a business’ digital transformation team.
  • With Wi-Fi 6E and private LTE, enterprises will have more wireless options than ever: Mobile internet connectivity is becoming a necessity for a country and its citizens’ economic prosperity. By late 2021 or early 2022 Wi-Fi 6E, which increases available RF spectrum with the addition of 1GHz of spectrum at 6GHz, will be an enabler for the continued hypergrowth of IoT and mobile devices across all vertical industries. Private LTE in the 3.5GHz band will start to appear in the enterprise, to ensure businesses can provide ubiquitous internet coverage to their employees, guests, customers and IoT devices. The future will be a network of networks and AI will be key in managing the complexity.

    AI

    • AIOps for networking will become mainstream:  AIOps will go from theory to practice for many organisations. With the increase of remote workers and the home becoming the new micro branch, AI will become table stakes for delivering a great client to cloud user experience from client to cloud while controlling IT support costs for remote employees. IT teams will need to embrace AIOps to scale and automate their operations. AIOps cloud SaaS will turn the customer support paradigm upside down. Instead of users submitting tickets to IT, AI will proactively identify users with connectivity or experience issues and will either resolve (the self-driving network) or will open a ticket with suggested remediation actions for IT.
    • AI assistants will become part of the IT team: AI assistants will continue to get smarter and become an integral part of the overall IT team. Their efficacy will improve through learning and direct feedback from the IT team gaining their trust as valued team member. The ability of AI assistants to solve increasingly complex user issues will decrease strain and workloads for IT teams.
    • Education will be one of the biggest barriers to AI adoption: Evaluating and implementing AI solutions calls for investment in the IT team. Forward thinking businesses will invest in education of the IT leadership so that they can better understand how to evaluate and implement AI solutions across the business.
    • AI will be a game-changer in helping enterprises shift to remote work: Leveraging AI helps with operational efficiency and helps deliver higher customer satisfaction. It also helps enterprises better align with business objectives and assure outcomes.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed has been one of the most consistent and longstanding franchises in the gaming industry, with 23 games in the series. Over the past few iterations, players have been taken to Ancient Greece with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Ancient Egypt with Assassin’s Creed: Origins. The new Assassin’s Creed Valhalla follows a similar trend and takes players on a journey through an open-world during the 9th century Viking invasions of England.

The Story

The main Character Eivor, played either as male or female, leads you through an engaging and dynamic narrative where vengeance is desired. After spending many hours in the ice-cold of Norway, raiding villages on the fjords, you want something more. After failed alliances with other Viking tribes, enough is enough.

Along with your brother Sigurd, you convince many in your clan to leave Norway and set sail for England to find a better life. Once there, you establish a settlement and spread into East Anglia, where there are a new set of encounters. In order to grow the settlement, you must find resources and supplies. This takes you to many stunning locations, all boasting a variety of combat.

The Longship: Courtesy of Ubisoft

Game Play

The gameplay is very similar to past games but the new environment enables for a refreshing gaming experience. As with any other Assassins Creed game, there are a plethora of options, both in your fighting style and armour. Cruising around in your customisable Longship is a definite favourite, where the textures and colours of the landscape really pop. Combat is also diverse in its 23 enemy types, all bringing forth different skills and difficulties.

To any Assassin’s Creed fan, this is a must-have. It builds on the open-world gameplay and creates a new sense of exploration. You will not be left hanging, as it is a huge game that can last as long as you please.

Nomophobia is the fear of being without a smartphone, or beyond mobile phone contact – and there’s a high chance you suffer from it.

According to a Monash University study, we are addicted to our mobile phones and our inability to disconnect could be endangering our health. The Australia-first study, measuring nomophobia and its consequences, shows 99.2 per cent of users have some fear of being without their phone.

The study, Nomophobia: Is the Fear of Being without a Smartphone Associated with Problematic Use, was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

Researchers from BehaviourWorks Australia, part of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) surveyed 2838 Australians on their psychological attachment to their phone and usage habits. They found almost half of all participants (43.3 per cent) spent upwards of three hours a day on their phone. The more they used their phone, the higher their level of nomophobia and the greater their risk of problematic dependent, prohibited or dangerous usage.

Young people aged 18 to 25 had the highest level of nomophobia and males were almost twice as likely to engage in dangerous use than females.

In Australia, 84 per cent of the population has mobile phone internet access, and there are more mobile phone subscriptions than people (109.6 per 100 inhabitants).

The study found users with nomophobia were 11.7 times more likely to have a problematic phone dependency and 10.3 times more likely to use their phone in a prohibited space, like a library, classroom or cinema. They were also 14 times more likely to engage in dangerous use – such as while driving, cycling or walking.

The study found mobile phones cause friction between the digital and physical worlds. A user’s dependency on their phone for a sense of belonging, connectedness and social identity may even reduce their capacity to navigate social bonds offline.

Lead researcher, PhD candidate Fareed Kaviani, said phones had become part of our lives, but they should be used with caution.

“I think we have habitualised the device into our lives, on both a structural and individual level,” said Kaviani. “The fear of being without one’s mobile phone may be a rational response when we have come to rely on them for staying in contact with friends and family, using the digital wallet, scanning QR codes for entry into venues, or to read shopping lists and access information.

“Use becomes problematic when the digital takes precedence, to the detriment of the physical. Habits are involuntary, and mindless engagement can continue in physical environments where use is prohibited, like the cinema or library, or even become dangerous, such as using a phone while driving or crossing the road.

“If your smartphone use is having a deleterious impact on the physical and/or psychological health of yourself or those around you, then that is a problem. But I think the device, if used mindfully, can be a complement to the supercomputer we already carry around in our heads.”

COVID-19 has meant that many restrictions have been placed on the things we love the most. Live sports is scarce, social gatherings in large groups are not permitted, exercise is limited, and we’ve been instructed to stay at home whenever possible.

So what do we do?

There’s only so much we can do in our homes, so people have gone to Pinterest for things like quick and easy cooking ideas, crafts and lesson plans for kids, tips for growing vegetables and more. In fact, according to Pinterest, this weekend was an all-time high in activity for the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and more, with more searches and saves of Pins on the platform than any other weekend in the sites’ history.

Here are some of the top searches from the past few weeks according to Pinterest:

  • Searches for stay at home kids activities
  • Work from home with kids searches
  • Searches for Work from home jokes
  • Tips for working from home

So in light of the current situation, Pinterest has launched the Today tab, the place where people can find the topics they love and the world’s trending pins all in one place. This daily source of inspiration will feature advice from the World Health Organisation and Centres for Disease Control on subjects like hand washing as well as fresh ideas for baking, remote working setups, family movies and many more.

Today Tab, Pinterest

All users need to do to access the world’s trends is click on “Today” at the top of their Pinterest feed in the app. The tab will start off with ideas curated by Pinterest’s team, and then will feature guest editors in the future.

Home feeds remains a personalised space for inspiration with recommendations based on Pinners’ activity, the “Today” tab simply curates content based on current trends and what people are searching for so you can stay in the loop. So you can use both to stay on top of both yours and the world’s interests.

Additionally, with an increase in search of keywords and phrases including “stress relief”, “calming quotes”, and “stress quotes”, Pinterest is also adding a custom search experience that gives users access to emotional wellbeing activities from experts based on what terms they search. For example, if you were to search for “coronavirus”, you’d get something similar to below:

Here are some other ways that Pinterest is making reliable information easily accessible to everyone:

  • Prohibiting ads that claim to offer cures or treatments or that are looking to exploit the crisis
  • A banner across the site that leads to COVID-related information, including content from the World Health Organization
  • An easy way to report health misinformation through the “health misinformation” option on Pins. Pinterest is removing any misinformation it finds about COVID-19 because it violates the company’s health misinformation policy (which has been in place since 2017).
  • Stay safe, stay inspired board shared with Pinners
  • A curation of helpful COVID-19 related information featured globally

The “Today” tab is only available in the UK and US for now, but will soon launch in more countries.
