Maintaining smooth skin is no easy task – especially if you’re often blighted by ingrown hairs.
Whether you shave, wax or take a natural approach to grooming, the bumps can leave you feeling uncomfortable and self-conscious.
Over the years, beauty gurus have sworn by various methods for preventing razor rash, including putting olive oil on your pubic area.
And now, Reddit users are adamant that they’ve found a £16 remedy to clogged hairs.
In a recent post on the Skincare Addiction subreddit, commenters revealed their favourite ingrown hair solution.
Apparently, COSRX’S BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is one of the best exfoliators on the market.
While the product is meant for unclogging blackheads, its powers are surprisingly useful elsewhere too.
Women claim that the fluid can root out hairs that are lodged under the skin – although it’s advisable to avoid areas that are very sensitive.
One Redditor gushed: “My face didn’t like it much, so started using is as an after-shave with surprising success!
“No irritation, ingrown hairs have lessened a fair bit.”
Another wrote: “I’ve used BHA successfully on ingrowns.
“You probably just don’t want it too close to any super sensitive parts.”
So why is the ointment so good for blackheads?
Allure spoke to dermatologist Shari Marchbein to find out more.
She said: “BHAs are oil-soluble and can therefore penetrate deep into pores helping to unclog them and remove dead skin.”
But before you rush out to buy a bottle, the expert also urged some caution.
She added: “True ingrown hairs from waxing or shaving occur when the hair gets cut below the top layer of the skin, and as it regrows, gets trapped underneath and cannot penetrate back through the epidermis.
“It is unlikely a solution containing BHA will be able to significantly improve the inflammation or free up the trapped hairs.”
In other beauty news, we recently revealed what the most popular pubic hair trend is for 2018.
Men are also getting into personal grooming, with many admitting to manscaping down there.
A recent poll showed that 25% of chaps trim their pubes, while 12% clean shave their intimate areas.
